Video Poker Classic Review

Sorry, No US Players Accepted at Video Poker Classic Online Casino
Video Poker Classic:
Video Poker Classic Casino is one of the older online casinos on the web, although with online gaming still in its infancy, the casino has actually only be operating since the mid-90s. This casino is powered by Gambling Federation (G-Fed) software - a company that has recently been in the news, and not for good reasons.

It was discovered that G-Fed had bundled secret 'malware' with their casino software to effectively stop people visiting the sites of competitors. Players have heavily condemned this move and quite rightly so, yet the operators of G-Fed were slow to accept that this was unethical and irresponsible. There have also been reports of employees stealing member data - again a grave concern for players. These results led to the expulsion of G-Fed from the Interactive Gaming Council (IGC).

Yet the actual software developed by G-Fed is actually very good and particularly so the 'new' version recently rolled out for players. As such, Video Poker Classic is reviewed here, although as with every casino - a player must make his or her own judgment before depositing and playing.

As with many online casinos, Video Poker Classic Casino uses download software, which must be installed on a users computer. The website actually offers two types - the 'classic' version or the 'new' version, which was the one I opted to play. The file size of this download is only a few kilobytes, although this proves to be simply an installation program - more files are required from the Video Poker Classic server for installation to complete.

Download and installation is a simple process, as is signing up as a new member of the casino - a little bit of form filling is all that is required for a user to be up and running. Players then have to log in either in 'free play' or 'money play' mode. The free play mode is a very good way for players to get used to the software, and of course means casino games can be played without risking money, should the player so wish.

I like to play with real money though - and as such I logged in to the money play mode and headed straight to the cashier. The Video Poker Classic cashier is very easy to use with big, clear icons making for easy navigation to the different cashier sections. In terms of depositing options, this casino offers many choices - credit cards, Firepay, NeTeller and Bank Wire are available; as well as less popular deposit options such as Moneybookers, Eco Card and for UK players, Switch/Maestro and Solo cards.

I created my account in USD ($), although Video Poker Classic caters to the global market by offering play in Euros, Yen and UK Pounds. As such, I typed in '100' into the cashier and within seconds $100 had left my NETeller account and was sitting in my newly created casino account.

Upon completion of this transfer a pop-up window appeared telling me I was entitled to a new-player bonus. Video Poker Classic offers a multitude of bonuses for both new and existing players - a quick look at the website reveals tempting offers are available such as 'Tuesday's Catch of the Day Bonus' and 'Seeing Triple on Wednesday awards'. For my $100, I was given a bonus of $64. I was impressed with the way the bonus system works at this casino - this pop-up not only told me of the bonus amount I was entitled too, but also how much I would have to wager to cash out. If I didn't like the bonus terms, I also had the option to decline the bonus. However, deciding more money was a good thing, I accepted the $64 and the associated wagering conditions.

Although I had never played at Video Poker Classic before, I was under the impression that the casino software would not be very appealing. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the first-impression the casino creates - games are presented in an attractive lobby format, with gentle guitar-based music playing in the background.

I was also impressed with range of games available; which are accessed through a menu-based navigation system. Casino mainstays such as Blackjack and Roulette sit comfortably amongst lesser-known games such as Sic Bo and Mah-jong. Again, I think this shows that the management has thought hard about the global attractiveness of their online gaming. Although I was tempted to play these games, I did not have a clue about the rules, so the first game I played was Blackjack.

Although just one type of Blackjack is available at Video Poker Classic, players do have a choice of table limits - $1-$100, $5-500 and a huge $25-$1000. These limits really are good, and are attractive to low-rollers and whales alike. These limits also seemed constant across the games range - a quick look at Craps, Caribbean Stud Poker and Pai Gow Poker revealed the same limits at all three.

I decided to start small, and with my $1 bet resting on the table I clicked deal. My first couple of hands were losers, but after upping my bet to $4 I was dealt a winner. I have to say that again my preconceptions of this casino proved wrong - as the graphic quality of the software is actually very good. Although perhaps not as good as some of the larger software providers such as Microgaming, the design team at G-Fed have definitely done a good job. Game play is also accompanied with sound-effects, although these consist of a few simple beeps and clicks - not as good as the smooth dealer voices employed at some competitor sites.

The same quality presentation was visible in the other card games I played - Caribbean Stud Poker and Pai Gow Poker were others that were definitely fun to play. In terms of luck, I actually did OK at the table games as well. I found myself up and down, but it was nice to get some play without really seeing a downward fall of my bank roll! I did come a little unstuck at roulette though. I decided to bet on red numbers with values of 25 or less. Unfortunately, the first five spins produced black numbers - and it was only the number 14 coming in on the 6th spin that rescued me somewhat.

Deciding that the table games had turned nasty, I decided to examine the video poker menu. I have to say I was somewhat shocked to see the huge variety of Video Poker games available. First, all games are available in 1, 3, 10 and 50-hand versions, which offers excellent choices for the player. Secondly, there were versions of VP available at this casino I had never even heard of! Along with the traditional Jacks or Better and Deuces Wild - there were games with names such as 'Crazy 8's' and 'Flushorama' - this place really is a Video Poker player's dream!

I stayed with the more traditional video poker games, and have to say that my gaming experience was a good one. The graphics were again good and the game play was very smooth - only with the multi-hand video poker games there was little server 'lag'. My only criticism is that with the multi-hand games a player must be careful about how much they are betting. On one game I thought was betting $5 per game - yet in fact I had bet $5 per hand - and since I was playing a 10-hand game that was $50 blown on one deal! The software does show a total wagered value, but it seemed this only updated after I had pressed deal for the first time. Of course, it could just be my lack of attention that led to a heavy dent in my bankroll!

Again, I was up and down at video poker, although the $50 loss did hurt somewhat. Although I could quite happily have spent an age playing the varieties of video poker at this casino, I decided I should head to the slot section. Slots are presented at Video Poker Classic on either the 3-reel or 5-reel menu. However, within each main menu are sub-headings detailing the specifics of each game (progressive or not, number of win lines etc.). As such, there is a reasonably good selection of slot game available at this casino.

Although I think the number of slots would keep the interest of many players, there are other casinos available with more slot variety. Many of the ones I played, while reasonably well presented, were very similar. The graphics while good, were also of a slightly lower quality than with the rest of the casino, which is a slight disappointment. Nevertheless the games played well and I was particularly happy with a $75 win I got on the 'Double Dice' game.

At this point my bankroll was down to about $100. This was pretty good considering I had wagered a reasonable amount. Unfortunately, I decided to try and meet the bonus wagering requirements with some big blackjack hands. While a few of my $25 bets were winners, a losing streak came along which wiped me out - I guess I shouldn't have taken the bonus money after all! However, the website states all cash-ins are processed within 3 business days, which I feel is a reasonable time frame. The player also has the option to reverse a cash-in during this pending period, although this can sometimes be a risky move!

In terms of support, Video Poker Classic offers email support and live-chat facilities. However, the live-chat is only available while in the casino software, which is a shame. There is a telephone number too, however again this is of limited use - as it is only available for US players. It is a shame that Video Poker Classic have not implemented a better support facility, as this is an important aspect to consider when choosing a casino.

To conclude, I think that Video Poker Classic is a good casino. There is a good variety of games available, including some very unusual ones. Similarly, the actual game presentation is good - with nice graphics and smooth game play. Banking facilities seem fine, and support is reasonable, although this is one area that is a slight letdown. My only reservation with this casino really lies with the software manufacturer - although G-Fed are reporting that the new software is free from problems and that they will be more thoughtful in the future. As such, while I am happy to add this casino to my 'good casinos list', new visitors must use their judgment before deciding to play here.
