Casino Del Rio Review

Sorry, No US Players
Casino Del Rio:
Every casino operator wants to entice players into downloading and playing at their casino, but the tropical theme of the exotically named Casino Del Rio definitely worked for me. Recently I have spent a lot of time playing at Microgaming casinos and with the need for a change, decided it was time to review this Playtech-powered casino.

The best player experience is achieved by playing on the download version of the casino. However, a no-download flash version with a handful of games is also available. Of course, the flash version may well appeal to those on a slow connection, but with the download installer being just 286k in size I really cannot see too many people having issues. The installer does then download further files for installation but this should not take too long even for those on a slow connection.

Installation of Del Rio Casino, for me, went fine and I was impressed to see the software could be installed not only in English but also in French and Spanish. I always think it is good to see a casino that has thought about its global market.

Of course, no play can take place at the casino until an account is registered. At Casino Del Rio a player can create a real and play account and these can be used interchangeably. As such, even if a player has a real account they can still sign in to play for free at any time should they so wish. As with the language option, Casino Del Rio also offers the player a choice of playing currency - US $, UK £ and Euros are all available.

I created a new US $ account and then went to the cashier. At this point though, I actually got sidetracked before I made a deposit. However, I came back to find a live chat window open. I wasn't sure what this was about, but when I read the live chat message I was being offered $50 free on top of the usual sign up bonus! As such, maybe it pays to wait before making a first deposit! Talking of bonuses though, new players can claim a huge 300% bonus up to 300$ for making an e-wallet first deposit. Even credit card depositors can get up to $100 free. Of course there are wagering requirements attached to these bonuses, but free money may make the difference between hitting a jackpot and not!

With regards to depositing at Casino Del Rio, a variety of different deposit methods are available ranging from e-wallet solutions such as NETeller and Firepay to traditional deposit methods such as credit cards. In fact, with 19 different deposit methods available I think this is one of the best cashiers around in terms of depositing options available. I personally chose to deposit $100 via NETeller, and although the different deposit bonuses were tempting, I actually decided to see if I could play and win off just my own money.

As you would expect with any online casino, a decent number of casino games are available at Casino Del Rio and all are accessible through the casino lobby. The different games are grouped by type (e.g. Card and Table Games, Video Slots etc.) which makes it easy for a player to locate exactly the game they are after. Not all games are downloaded to begin with, but these are downloaded in the background whilst the casino is running. Similarly, a player can 'force' a game to download if there is any particular one they wish to experience. I decided to approach the test of this casino in my usual manner; to go down the menu in order. As such, my first play began at the tables.

Del Rio has a decent number of table games, including some nice multi-hand Blackjack games (3 or 5 spot) as well as some games such as Casino Hold'Em that, as far as I know, are unique to Playtech casinos. Some of the table games, such as Blackjack Progressive also offer the player the opportunity of winning large jackpots. I think this is good, as it means card players can experience the thrills often associated only with slot games.

I personally began my play at the Blackjack table. From what I could see, all the Blackjack games had a betting range of $1 to $300 per spot. On the 5-spot table this means that a maximum of $1500 can be bet in any one time. This should satisfy most players and of course, low rollers will appreciate the $1 minimums. Even the Baccarat game had a minimum of just $5, which is pretty low for this game.

The other thing that impressed me was the quality of the games I played. The Blackjack game, for example, uses very high quality graphics that are pleasant on the eye but also easy to see. Similarly, Casino Del Rio enhances the player experience by using sound effects and on some games by even providing a dealer voiceover. Further more, the easy-to-use player interface and game speed really does make gambling fun at Casino Del Rio.

Of course, winning is also nice - and I did reasonably well at the Blackjack table. I had a mix of winners and losers, but it's always nice to leave a game without having given anything to the house. I also had a good bit of luck at the Caribbean Stud Poker table. I was dealt two pair and since I beat the dealer, my reasonably large bet meant I ended up winning $80. The same was true on the Let it Ride table. This game had an unusually high $5 minimum, but this simply meant that my three-of-a-kind paid me of handsomely!

A real draw at Casino Del Rio, though, is that some of the table games are 'live'. The casino has utilized the power of webcam technology to present games using real life dealers. This will really appeal to those who are concerned about fair dealing. Of course the bad beats still happen, but seeing the cards fall live makes the impossible dealer 21s a little more bearable.

I came away from the table games feeling that I really had enjoyed the games I'd played and with my bank balance at around $140 I also came away with a small profit. I decided next to see how kind the Video Poker games were going to be.

Whilst Del Rio has a reasonable number of Video Poker games, the selection is not huge. For example, Deuces Wild is the only form of wild card game available. Similarly, while there are a few multi-hand games, the selection offered is small compared to some other casinos available. Nevertheless, for a part-time Video Poker player such as myself I was happy with the games available.

I personally tried out the 4-hand Deuces Wild game. This game is great when the wild cards come out of the pack, but long-time players of this game will know that the wins can be few and far between when they don't. Thankfully they did appear from time to time meaning I was able to keep playing here without losing too much. I had better luck on the 10-hand Jacks or Better game though, where dealt queens meant that I was guaranteed 10 winning hands during one of my rounds. The same also happened on the 25-hand Aces and Faces hand where during one round my $12.50 bet became $18.50.

Unfortunately - I didn't have any major wins during my Video Poker play. Of course, that's the way it goes sometimes. I did have fun playing the Video Poker games available though, and was pleased to see that the same high quality graphics that I had experienced during my table play was again on display in these games. The auto-hold functionality also means that a player isn't going to accidentally throw any winning hands away.

With my bank balance now back down to pretty much the starting mark of $100, I decided to check out some of the slot games available. As with Video Poker, a decent number of slot games are available at Casino Del Rio. However, those looking for 100s of different games to choose from will be disappointed. Nevertheless, a decent number of 'traditional' and video slots are available including a good number of progressive games. The only type of game that I couldn't really find was those with bonus rounds - free spin type games were available but definitely none with hugely elaborate sub games.

Unfortunately I had a huge run of back luck on the slots; meaning I really didn't get to try out too many! I did have fun playing the Chinese Kitchen game with its many pay lines, but my biggest return was a measly $4.50 on a $6 bet - not great! I guess this is one of those that pays all or nothing, although with its cute graphics I was really tempted to keep playing!

I also had fun on the Queen of the Pyramids video slot, particularly dreaming of what I would do when I won the $35,000 progressive! Of course this never happened, although I did have enough wins to keep me satisfied on this one. I also tried out the 8-Ball, Jungle Boogie and Jungle Mania games ,but with my biggest returns simply doubling my bet it soon meant I was down at zero! I am sure the slots are no tighter than anywhere else, just that Lady Luck forgot to look over me during this session!

Despite my zero balance, I did investigate the withdrawal policy of Casino Del Rio. Withdrawal requests are handled through the cashier with a number of withdrawal options available - most players would probably opt for e-wallet or bank draft withdrawals. Withdrawals stay in pending for about 5 days before being processed - which, while not terrible, is not great. What's more, with the ability to cancel withdrawals, players need to be careful at not reversing a cash-in. This is a problem I have been having recently!

Of course, another important consideration when choosing a casino is the quality of customer support. At Casino Del Rio support is available 24/7 via email, telephone and within in-game live chat. Unfortunately, only the US have the ability to call a toll-free number - and my experience with live chat was not great - it took 10 minutes for an operator to respond to my chat request. Having said that, my email request was responded to within 45 minutes so I guess the support does work. I just feel more could have been done in this area.

In conclusion, I think Casino Del Rio is a reasonably good online casino. I like the name, but in addition to this, the casino has a number of games that are presented well. I admit for Slot and Video Poker players the game selection may not appeal, but generally I was happy with the mix of games provided. In addition the casino does have banking and support functions that work. However, I do think more can be done to improve withdrawal processing times and to improve the support offering. Nevertheless, there is nothing really bad to say about Casino Del Rio and if players are keen to take up the generous welcome offers, I don't see any problem in players choosing to gamble here.
